AVODA SOLD ITS SOUL TO THE DEVIL

I-INTRODUCTION

Demographic changes and political system have weakened Israeli Left wing and in particular AVODA Party. Losing identity and references by making alliance against nature should only accelerate the death of this Party.

It appears difficult that anyone might vote How to vote for a party who has no more principles, references or identity.

Power may only result from ballots and it makes no sense to find a way to gain power against the wish of citizens.

AVODA or its former components used to be a major Party in Israel and became negligible in 2009 with only 13 seats and preferred to join the Ultra Right Coalition for 4 Ministries out of 30.

II- DEATH OF A FORMER MAJOR PARTY – Choosing the side of War supporters

AVODA has decided on 25 March 2009 to join the ruling Ultra Rightist Coalition after a secret vote which established a clear majority in this way despite the protest of a few leaders.

This coalition is ruling the country towards a permanent conflict with Palestinians against the wish of Europe and USA. This coalition is inclined to isolation by provocative policy of colonization and an ultra rightist conception of citizenship.

We could have expected that the members opposed to this choice would resign but until now nothing happened.

A-BRIEF HISTORY OF AVODA

Among the main components of AVODA was MAPAI. MAPAI was strongly linked to left side since its leaders came most of the time from KIBBUTZIM “Socialist Micro-Societies”, and members such as David BEN GOURION, Yisthak NAVON, Zalman SHAZAR, Eze Levy ESHKOL, Shimon PERES,  Yitshakh RABIN.

Among these major leaders, who founded the Nation, only Shimon Peres is alive to witness the collapse of AVODA issued from MAPAI. Shimon Peres left AVODA in 2005 to join the new Party KADIMA and as President of the State he has only a ceremonial role independent of Government.

This end of AVODA, sole official heir of MAPAI is a substantial event in the History of Israel and this shows that the territory cannot guarantee alone the identity of a Nation and resilience in principles and ideas, is more important than a territory.

By joining the Ultra Rightist Coalition, AVODA stopped to be together a Party of Social Progress and also a Party of Peace.

B-KADIMA MADE A SUCCESSFUL CHOICE IN BECOMING PART OF THE OPPOSITION

KADIMA, which was assumed to be more rightist than AVODA appears now as a Party of Progress by underlining its strong link to Democratic and Peace principles.

As a matter of fact, KADIMA has wished to remain among the Partner of Peace since they refused alliance with the rightist Coalition on the basis Peace principle and Democratic Principles:

Peace Principle: Two States for two peoples

KADIMA supports this principle and not the Ultra Rightist Coalition; this was a sufficient reason to reject any invitation to join them.

Democratic Principle: A member of the Ultra Rightist Coalition, Yisrael Beiteinou, intends to impose a citizenship loyalty Law.  This law should enable a Government to deprive a citizen of the Israeli Nationality is such Government decides that such Citizen is not loyal to the Nation. This type of power in use in Dictatorships may permit to expel any opponent to the views of the Government after deprivation of his rights of Citizen.

Jeopardizing Democratic rules was a sufficient reason for KADIMA to remain far from the ruling Coalition but this was not sufficient to AVODA.

It must be noted that in 2005 AVODA lost personalities as Shimon Peres, Haim Ramon and Dalia Itzik, who joined KADIMA.

C-ABOUT CITIZEN LOYALTY

This principle was requested by Yisrael Beiteinou despite we may question the loyalty of this Party toward Israel Identity. As a matter of fact, YISRAEL BETEINOU meaning Israel is our Home might be also called RUSSIA BEITEINOU meaning Russia is our home.

The supporters of this Party seem to be strongly linked to Russia and requested the establishment of privileged relation with CIS’ countries and notably with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. The Loyalty-citizenship law is may be in line with the non-democratic Russia but is disloyal to Israel.

Israel became in many places a bilingual country: Russian and Hebrew.

Many things are written in Hebrew and Russian in Israel: In Super-Markets, Stores, Public Indications and signalizations, up to indications in cash dispensers, subtitles of all movies and  in some Companies Russian is the sole language utilized…Direct flight network exists between Israel and many cities of CIS countries. In facts Russia is much more present in Israel than USA.

Yisrael Beiteinou Party took control now of 4 Important Ministries:

1-FOREIGN AFFAIRS – 2-INTERNAL SECURITY SERVICE -3-INTEGRATION 4-TOURISM

It is also widely admitted than the immigration criteria are more flexible for people from Russia and this even by the religious Parties, members of same coalition. Officially the second language of Israel is Arabic and not Russian as it is in fact and Israel is expelling himself from Middle East. Even French, which used to be “privately” widely known, is disappearing.

D-IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCES

The firm position of the coalition against negotiations and its stubbornness to continue colonization will lead to

-A permanent and violent conflict with Palestinians

-A predominance of HAMAS and the weakening of people as Mahmoud ABBAS

Indirectly this may unfortunately postpone the freedom of the Franco-Israeli Citizen Guilad Shalit, who was kidnapped in 2006.

III CONCLUSION: THE RESPONSIBILITY OF AVODA

The electoral system in Israel is a real mess with too many parties because a much too low threshold level, an inefficient proportionality rule and a total absence of link between Members of Parliament and people since elections are based on lists (see my former articles).

Benyamin Netanyahou made a Government of 30 ministers, the biggest ever created in Israel, to please all ultra right parties including the smallest.

Benyamin Netanyahou needed a soul for his coalition to be respectable vis-à-vis other countries. He tried to obtain KADIMA’s participation as soul component but the latter resisted and finally seduced AVODA and his ambitious leader.

ULTRA RIGHT WING PARTIES act in line with their ideology and AVODA, which accepted to give them a kind of soul, should have also to respond to consequences of the policy of the current Government.

In fact AVODA will probably have to pay a second time after its electoral collapse, the price of the betrayal of its own values. AVODA sold its soul to the devil as a result of short view strategy and above all a lack of conviction, of identity and of feeling regarding its duties towards the founders of the Nation.

The price will probably be its practical disappearance from Israeli political stage as a useless micro-party without spine. AVODA remains member of Socialist International and this might be questioned by other world parties of Progress.

One single positive point rose out of this story and this is the respectable behavior of KADIMA. They resist to temptation, and remain loyal to their principles linked to Peace and Democracy. Tsipora Livni and Haim Ramon have gained credibility in comparison but should improve their social policy when they will be back to Government.

UPDATE ON 25 SEPTEMBER 2011

2011-Start of cleaning

On January 17, 2011, Ehud Barak has "finally" resigned from the Labour Party and as a result of his position as President of

the Party whose founding principles were ignored by him. He was thus able to keep running the military policy of Binyamin

Netanyahu. He even created a microscopic party of four members of parliament named "Independence” which is rather that of his

dependence on Binyamin Netanyahu.

It seems that the main motivation of Ehud Barak is the personal ambition and desire to remain the chief of the army at the expenses of

his soul.

He revealed his total lack of interest in social considerations of the Labour Party which he was the leader from 1997 to 2001 and from

2007 to 2011.

His resignation does not absolve those who voted to enter the coalition of Binyamin Netanyahu nor allow them to return to a moral

standard that they have lost forever.

The new president Shelly Yacimovitch would like to dedicate this now very weak Party to social issues.
